NICE TO MEET YOU
Meet Your Counselor: Amie PetersonÂ
As the daughter of a retired Police Chief who served for 34 years, I grew up inside the culture, not just beside it. With over 17 years of experience in the mental health field, I have dedicated my career to the treatment of trauma, substance use, and the unique needs of First Responders, healthcare professionals, and veterans. I understand the weight of the job in a way that doesn’t need translation. You don’t have to explain it. I already get it.
In 2020, I began noticing a sharp increase in the toll the profession was taking on our First Responders. Calls were heavier, the stress was higher, and the ripple effect on families was undeniable. At the same time, mental health appointment waitlists were running anywhere from 6–9 months. I knew this field couldn’t wait that long. Because of my expertise in trauma and my passion for serving this community, I had to act. I created Thin Line 206 as an educational platform to break down mental health in ways that made sense for First Responders. Shortly after, I launched my own private practice—Thin Line Therapy 206—exclusively dedicated to First Responders and Healthcare Professionals. Since then, I’ve expanded my work to include consultation, trainings, and department-wide education with one mission in mind: improving the lives of those who serve.
I’ve walked alongside officers, dispatchers, firefighters, EMS, healthcare workers, and their families through the hardest moments. Line-of-duty deaths, critical incidents, sleep loss, moral injury, and the “I’m fine” mask that feels impossible to take off. My role is to provide a space where you don’t have to filter your reality. Thin Line Therapy 206 is built for the culture, backed by the experience, and delivered with respect, because that’s exactly what this work requires.
That’s why when it came to naming my practice, I wanted something that represents both where I come from and who I serve. And that’s where the meaning of 206 comes in…
The Story of Thin Line 206
Helping others has always been more than a career goal. It’s how I was raised. I come from a law enforcement family with over 100 years of combined service. Growing up, we were taught to lead with integrity, stay grounded, and show up for people especially when it was hard.
My father, a retired Chief of Police with 34 years of service, lived that every day. His badge number was 206. He led with strength and compassion, and I built Therapy 206 to carry that legacy forward.
This practice was created to give First Responders a space where they’re understood without having to explain themselves. Specifically a space that’s confidential, respectful, and rooted in the culture. My mission is to help those who serve stay mentally strong, clear-headed, and resilient both on duty and off.
Behind 206
Early in my career, it became clear just how deeply the job impacts First Responders not just physically, but emotionally. I saw firsthand how compassion, empathy, and repeated exposure to trauma can take a toll on those wearing the uniform, as well as their spouses and families.
In high-stress professions, it’s easy to normalize the chaos and push through the exhaustion. But over time, that pressure can lead to compassion fatigue, anxiety, depression, sleep problems, PTSD. In many cases, using alcohol or other substances just to cope.
And yet, asking for help is often the hardest part. First Responders are used to being the ones who step in, not the ones who reach out. Many fear looking weak, facing judgment, or risking their career. Some worry they’ll be met with a therapist who doesn’t get the job or the unspoken weight that comes with it.
That silence can be deadly. We’ve seen it and we’ve lost too many.
Don’t wait until you’re at your breaking point.
You are not a burden. You are not weak.
You are vital to your family, your agency, and your community.
You don’t have to carry it alone.
