Therapy Costs & Fees

Understanding the Cost of Care

Clear pricing. More options. Fewer surprises.

We believe you should know what therapy costs before you make a commitment. Whether you're a first responder looking for someone who understands your profession, a couple working through a difficult season, or someone considering trauma treatment, the financial side of getting help matters.

At Thin Line Therapy 206, we provide specialized mental health care through a private-pay model. We also partner with Mentaya to help clients explore potential reimbursement through their out-of-network insurance benefits.

We know therapy is an investment, and we're not going to pretend that cost doesn't matter. Our goal is to give you enough information to make a decision that works for you and your family.

Individual Therapy & Initial Evaluation Fees

Our clinicians have different levels of licensure, professional experience, and clinical specialties. Fees are based on the clinician and appointment type.

Clinician Level Therapy Session Initial Evaluation
Associate Licensed Therapist $125 $190
Fully Licensed Therapist $160 $240
Clinical Supervisor $175 $250

Our team provides services for individuals, couples, children, adolescents, first responders, veterans, healthcare professionals, and families. Each clinician brings different training and areas of expertise, and we're happy to help you identify someone who may be a good fit.

Fees are subject to change. Appointment duration and any service-specific pricing will be confirmed before scheduling.

Why We Are a Private-Pay Practice

We know insurance can make mental health treatment more affordable, and we understand why many people prefer to use it.

But we also know that the people we serve often have concerns that go beyond the cost of an appointment.

For a police officer, firefighter, dispatcher, corrections professional, healthcare worker, or military veteran, seeking mental health care can bring up questions that aren't always easy to ask.

Will this affect my career? Will my employer find out? Do I need a PTSD diagnosis? Who has access to my records? What happens if my insurance company decides I don't need any more treatment?

These are reasonable questions, and you deserve straightforward answers.

When insurance is billed for mental health treatment, claims generally require a qualifying diagnosis and information about the services provided. Depending on the plan and circumstances, insurance companies may request additional documentation to determine medical necessity or authorize treatment.

Private pay allows us to provide care without routinely submitting those claims to an insurance company. It also gives us greater flexibility to develop treatment plans based on clinical needs rather than insurance reimbursement requirements.

That doesn't mean therapy is undocumented, that diagnoses are never appropriate, or that confidentiality has no exceptions. We still maintain clinical records and follow all applicable legal and professional requirements.

What it means is that insurance doesn't automatically become part of your treatment relationship.

For some people, that distinction matters a great deal.

For others, the financial advantages of using insurance are more important. We respect that decision, too. Our goal isn't to convince you that private pay is the right choice for everyone. It's to help you understand your options.

Using Mentaya to Help With Out-of-Network Insurance

Insurance paperwork probably isn't how you want to spend your day off.

Especially when you're already managing rotating shifts, overtime, family responsibilities, or the everyday demands of a high-stress profession.

That's one reason we've partnered with Mentaya, a service designed to help clients navigate out-of-network mental health insurance benefits.

Mentaya may be able to help you determine whether your plan includes out-of-network coverage, estimate potential reimbursement, submit eligible claims, and follow up with your insurance company.

Here's how it works:

  1. Check your benefits. Mentaya can help you understand whether your plan may reimburse a portion of your treatment.

  2. Attend your appointment. You pay Thin Line Therapy 206 directly for your services.

  3. Submit eligible claims through Mentaya. Mentaya can manage the claims process and insurance follow-up.

  4. Receive any approved reimbursement. Your insurance company determines whether reimbursement is available and how much it will pay.

Mentaya charges a processing fee for its claims service. Its standard fee is 5% of the session charge, although you should confirm the current fee and terms before enrolling.

Using Mentaya is optional.

You can choose to pay privately without submitting claims, request a superbill when appropriate, or explore Mentaya as an option for managing out-of-network reimbursement.

For clients concerned about privacy, it's important to understand that submitting insurance claims generally involves sharing certain treatment information, including diagnosis and service details, with the claims service and insurer.

And one more important thing: a benefits estimate is not a guarantee of reimbursement.

We have partnered with Mentaya to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy.

Use this tool below to see if you qualify for reimbursement for any of the clinician's services.

What Is a Superbill, and How Does It Work?

A superbill is an itemized document that you can submit to your insurance company when seeking possible reimbursement for out-of-network mental health treatment.

It generally includes the date of service, the amount charged, applicable procedure codes, clinician information, and diagnosis information required for claim review.

The process is fairly straightforward:

You pay for your therapy appointment. You request a superbill from our practice. You submit it to your insurance company according to its claims process. Your insurer reviews the claim and determines whether any reimbursement is available.

We can provide superbills upon request when appropriate.

We want to be clear that providing a superbill does not guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you. Your plan determines eligibility, deductibles, allowed amounts, and reimbursement.

If you prefer not to handle the claims paperwork yourself, Mentaya may be an alternative worth exploring.

Questions Worth Asking Your Insurance Company

If you're planning to use out-of-network benefits, we recommend calling your insurance company before beginning treatment.

Here are a few questions worth asking:

  • Does my plan cover out-of-network outpatient mental health treatment?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much have I met?

  • What percentage of the allowed amount will my plan reimburse?

  • How does my plan determine the allowed amount for psychotherapy?

  • Are there limits on the number or frequency of appointments?

  • Does my plan require prior authorization?

  • Are telehealth appointments eligible for reimbursement?

  • Are services provided by associate-licensed clinicians eligible?

  • What documentation is required to submit a claim?

If you're considering an EMDR Intensive, ask specifically about coverage for extended treatment sessions. Insurance coverage for weekly psychotherapy does not necessarily mean an Intensive will be reimbursed in the same way.

We recommend writing down the date of your call, the representative's name, and any reference number they provide.

It's better to have those answers before treatment than to discover later that your insurance works differently than you expected.

EMDR Intensive Treatment: What Does It Cost?

An EMDR Intensive offers a different approach to scheduling trauma treatment by providing extended, concentrated treatment time rather than relying exclusively on weekly appointments.

For first responders, healthcare professionals, and others working unpredictable schedules, this can be an appealing option. But an Intensive is not appropriate for everyone, and the format should be determined through a clinical assessment.

Full-Day EMDR Intensive: $2,000 per day

Each full treatment day includes six hours of scheduled treatment time.

Treatment Format Cost
One-Day EMDR Intensive $2,000
Two-Day EMDR Intensive $4,000
Three-Day EMDR Intensive $6,000

Additional Scheduling Fees

  • Weekend appointments (Friday–Sunday): Additional $350 per day.

  • Holiday appointments: Additional $700 per day.

We recognize that this is a significant financial investment.

And if you're considering spending $2,000 or more on treatment, you should understand exactly what you're paying for.

An EMDR Intensive is not six straight hours of reliving traumatic experiences. Treatment involves preparation, assessment, individualized planning, and a structured clinical process. Our Intensive services also include appropriate preparation materials, follow-up, and additional coordination or check-ins when included in the treatment plan.

The number of days recommended depends on your clinical history, treatment goals, current symptoms, and readiness for this type of treatment.

We don't want you committing to multiple treatment days simply because you assume more treatment automatically means better results.

We want the treatment plan to make clinical sense.

EMDR Intensives are available in person in Walla Walla, Washington, with virtual options for eligible clients located in Washington, Oregon, and Minnesota.

When and How Do I Pay?

For standard therapy appointments, payment is generally due at the time of service.

We want the financial arrangements to be clear before you begin treatment, including what each appointment costs and when payment is expected.

EMDR Intensives involve additional planning and extended appointment reservations. Payment arrangements, scheduling requirements, and any applicable cancellation fees will be reviewed before booking.

If you have questions about payment or expected charges, please ask before scheduling. We'd rather have that conversation ahead of time than leave you wondering what you're going to owe.

Scheduling, Cancellations & Unpredictable Work Schedules

We understand that many of our clients don't have predictable schedules.

Mandatory overtime happens. Court gets scheduled. Shifts change. Someone calls out sick. A critical incident can turn a planned day off into another workday.

We understand that reality because working with first responders and high-stress professionals is a central part of what we do.

At the same time, when an appointment is reserved for you, that time is held specifically for your care. Late cancellations and missed appointments affect clinician availability and other clients who may have needed that appointment.

Our scheduling and cancellation policies will be provided before treatment begins. EMDR Intensives may have separate cancellation and rescheduling requirements because of the extended treatment time reserved.

We encourage you to communicate scheduling concerns as early as possible.

Understanding your profession and maintaining appropriate scheduling boundaries are not mutually exclusive.

Additional Services, Letters & Documentation

Sometimes clients need services outside their scheduled therapy appointments.

That might include a requested letter, clinical consultation, coordination with another treatment provider, or other documentation.

Additional professional time may involve separate fees. When applicable, we will explain those costs before proceeding.

It's also important to understand that therapy is different from employment-related evaluations. Treatment with Thin Line Therapy 206 does not automatically include fitness-for-duty evaluations, employment clearance, disability determinations, or other occupational assessments.

If you need specific documentation, please discuss the request with your clinician so we can determine whether it is appropriate and what fees, if any, would apply.

Good Faith Estimates: No Financial Surprises

If you're uninsured or choose not to use insurance, you generally have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected healthcare charges under applicable federal requirements.

A Good Faith Estimate is designed to help you understand anticipated costs before receiving services.

Because mental health treatment is individualized, the total cost of ongoing care depends on factors such as appointment frequency, duration, and treatment needs. Your estimate will reflect the services reasonably expected based on the information available when it is prepared.

You may request a Good Faith Estimate from our practice.

When Cost Is Part of the Decision

We know there are people who genuinely want therapy but aren't sure how to make it work financially.

Maybe you're supporting a family on one income. Maybe you're paying for childcare, managing medical expenses, or trying to make a budget work with unpredictable overtime.

Maybe you're a first responder who has spent years taking care of everyone else, and spending money on your own mental health feels difficult to justify.

Or maybe you're considering an EMDR Intensive and trying to decide whether the financial investment makes sense.

We understand that cost is a legitimate part of choosing treatment.

We're not going to pretend that specialized care is inexpensive or that everyone can simply rearrange their budget to make it work.

We also don't want you to feel pressured into treatment that isn't financially sustainable for you or your household.

If our fees aren't workable, that doesn't mean you shouldn't seek help. We encourage you to explore insurance benefits, other qualified clinicians, and available treatment resources.

Our goal is for you to receive appropriate care, even if that means another provider or treatment setting is a better fit.

Still Have Questions?

You don't have to know exactly what kind of therapy you need before reaching out.

Maybe you're comparing clinicians. Maybe you want to understand your insurance options. Maybe you're interested in EMDR but aren't sure whether weekly treatment or an Intensive would be appropriate.

Or maybe you're simply trying to figure out what getting help would realistically cost.

Those are all reasonable questions.

We're happy to help you understand your options so you can make an informed decision about your care.
